Thanks to all the drivers, fans, and especially the workers pulling double shifts!

And thanks to all the photographers and media. Check out these galleries for more action and check back for video as it gets finished!

Niko blows up the Sweet 16 @ Seattle FD

July 11, 2010 by Russell · Leave a Comment

2010_fd_seattle_gross_niko-ng

Local FD pro Nikolay ‘Molotov Cocktail’ Konstantinov not only was the first ever Evergreen Drift driver to break into the top 32 at a Formula Drift pro event he also made it to the Sweet 16!

The weekend didn’t start to well as Niko failed tech for having a Skyline front crossmember installed to support it’s RB25DETT. After a scramble and a little fabrication the FD legal and correct for the chassis S13 crossmember was installed and the car passed tech.

After taking Conrad Grunewald to a OMT in the top 32 Nikolay was able to squeak out a win and move on to the Sweet 16. This was no small feat as Nikolay’s measly460 HP was quite a bit slower than Conrad’s monster V8 Camaro on the back stretch leading to the initiation point.  Nikolay went all out and was able to keep on Contrad’s door during his chase runs which was a big factor in the judge’s decision.

In the Rounds of 16 Nikolay faced current Rookie of the Year points leader Charles Ng in his proven RX7 with an LS6 V8. Both FD rookie drivers battled hard and a one more time was called after the first pair of runs. The second pair of runs were equally as close except that Nikolay tapped the wall and straightened at the tight final hairpin on his lead run giving Ng the pass to the next round.

With many rookie drivers taking up to two seasons to break into the ultra competitive rounds of 16 Nikolay accomplished a huge feat in his first ever attempt at Formula Drift competition! Keep your eye on this guy as his goal is nothing less than to “Go all the way”.

As the only local Northwest driver to make it into the tandem eliminations Niko got all the home town fans excited and elicited extra loud cheers from the capacity crowd. Back in the pits after the Top 16 Niko was being mobbed like a rock star with people vying to have their arms autographed with a Sharpie!

Let’s hope he can make it Round #5 in Vegas as that track will be well suited to his car setup and driving style.

Grassroots Round 1 Recap and Media

June 8, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment

evd_20100606_grassroots_rnd1_flier

June 6th dawned a gray and rainy Seattle day. The prospect of poor conditions did little to deter the die hard Northwest drifters and fans. Thirty drifters from BC, Oregon, and Washington showed up to compete in the first of three rounds in the Evergreen Drift Grassroots Championship and over 100 spectators came to cheer on the drivers.

With competition rules that allow all skill levels and modification levels compete head to head drivers ranged from beginner to ProAm. All had one goal; to give it their all and see how far they could go.

Drivers had four practice runs before going into qualifying. The track was wet from morning showers and dusty from a monster truck event the weekend before making traction very hard to find. Drivers were getting warmed up and several got real close looks at the wall stopping mere feet from disaster. Others had fun punting the clipping point traffic barrels in spectacular fashion!

AJC Drift on ze Dyno

March 7, 2010 by Russell · Leave a Comment

Another day, another Evergreen Drift ProAm driver pre season dyno video.

This time it is Andrew Coomes of AJC Drift with an SR20DET.

354 horsepowers and 315 torque. Not bad for just having recovered from snapping a rocker in testing 4 days prior!

Preseason test sessions and dyno tuning. Looks like Andrew and team will be ready to hit the track at the first event!

The first Evergreen Drift Open Drift is 4/11 and it ’s the only Open Drift prior to the kickoff ProAm comp on 5/7. Will you be ready? The full Evergreen season schedule can be found here.

Evergreen Drift drivers on Wealth TV

March 5, 2010 by Russell · 2 Comments

Browsing the Formula Drift Blog I noticed this post:

“Last season during Round 4: All In Wealth TV came to film an episode of their show focused on Formula DRIFT. The episode airs this Sunday March 7 at 7PM (EST). It will periodically air on their network, but be sure to check your local listings – More info HERE.”

The video in question -

This Wealth on Wheels episode was filmed at the ‘09 FD Vegas round and it features an excellent layman’s overview of drifting and equal parts ProAm and Pro coverage.

Evergreen Drift drivers Roland Gallagher and Andrew Coomes made the trek down to the ProAm and took 3rd and 4th respectively earning invites to the ProAm Nationals (full story here).

The crazy thing is they show up in the Wealth on Wheels TV episode!

Check:

  • Roland font and center on the YouTube preview for the video
  • 2:07 - ProAm Drivers Meeting. Spot the locals.
  • 3:05 - Roland gives us the lowdown on his engine and drops the knowledge like a pro.
  • 5:31 - Andrew battles Johnny Kanavis in the finals.

ProAm drivers take note. You never know who is watching or what opportunities will pop up.

Primo’s ProAm Whip on the Dyno

February 24, 2010 by Russell · Leave a Comment

Mr. Primo’s killer S14 was sadly absent in the ‘09 season as it was all apart for a long term major update.

The car got a complete overhaul with updated FD spec cage and a 2JZ swap during the down time. Primo is wrapping up the finishing touches and will be ready for Evergreen Drift ProAm competition.

Check out the dyno video.

All you slackers better wrap the winter rebuilds up! Spring is in the air and the season is right around the corner.
