August 20, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment

If you weren’t able to make it to Vegas today and tomorrow for Formula Drift you can still watch live streaming coverage on Driftstream!

Head to http://www.justin.tv/driftstream to see clips of last night’s practice and tune in this afternoon to watch qualifying. If you are waiting for the live stream to start or missed anything you can watch the previous sessions and FD rounds (even Seattle) in the archive. You can also chat with drift fans from around the world!

Keep an out out for locals Nikolay Konstontanov, Victor Moore, Roland Gallagher, and Ian Fournier. Roland has experience on this course from running it at last years Vegas ProAm which should boost his confidence. Nikolay is coming of a top 16 finish from Seattle and both Ian and Victor are in strong positions to qualify as well.

Hopefully the video crew will also cover the Vegas Drift ProAm round that is going in conjunction with the FD event.

Evergreen ProAm Round #4 - Results

Congratulations to the winners of ProAm Round #4!

  1. Trent Stromkins - $300 and $25 Longacre Racing Certificate
  2. Peter Funatake - $200
  3. Walker Wilkerson - $150
  • Top Qualifier - Walker Wilkerson - Longacre Racing Tire Pressure Gauge

The lineup featured ProAm drivers from Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia:

  • Andrew Coomes
  • Peter Funataki
  • Mike Phillips
  • Nik Jimenez
  • Kyle Pollard
  • Trent Stromkins
  • Walker Wilkerson

Walker has jumped into ProAm mid-season and made the podium in his 2nd showing. He took top qualifier honors for round 4 and has proven to be a tough adversary straight out of the gate.

Trent is a 5/8ths OG and 2009 FD ProAm Nationals veteran. This is is first Evergreen event this season due to engine rebuilding woes. With is car back together he drove down from BC by himself to compete just for fun.

The final battle took 2 one more time rounds to settle as both drivers made errors due to mechanical difficulties. Peter Funatake lost power steering and Trent had a loose downpipe that caused him to lose power if he let the engine drop below 4000 rpm. Both drivers had to use all their skill to drive around these problems.

It was a tough decision but the judges chose Trent for his consistent wall riding high speed lines on the bank.

The season standings have been updated and with one more round to go Peter Funataki’s second place finish keeps him in first place overall ahead of Mike Phillips by 41 points. With the drivers all gunning to finish in the top 5 to earn the invitations to ProAm nationals anything could happen at the final round on September 3rd. Sunset is starting earlier and it will be a showdown under the Friday night lights that drift fans won’t want to miss.

Evergreen Drift would like to thank all the dedicated fans, volunteers, sponsors, and drivers that make these events so great!

2011 ASD Mob grassroots program

July 19, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment

asdlogo

Autosport Dynamics, the powerhouse team behind professional drifters like Vaughn Gitten Jr., Darren McNamara, Justin Pawlak, and Tyler McQuarrie has announced a ProAm and grassroots driver development sponsorship for the 2011 season.  They are expanding the successful program that powered Doug Van Den Brink and Steve Sokol to podium finishes this season to help out other up and coming drivers.

The ASD “Mob” will consist of 10 drivers that will benefit from purchasing ASD parts at cost, assistance in finding additional sponsors, technical support over the phone and at events ASD attends, plus an expense paid trip to ASD headquarters in Charlotte, NC for a chassis setup clinic.

The program will select 10 total drivers from across the USA. Applications will be accepted until August 27th 2010 at 5pm EST. A final decision and announcement of ASD Mob members will be announced by September 15th, 2010.

Qualified drivers must compete in a minimum of 5 local competition or ProAm events during the 2011 season, and may not have a current Formula Drift for D1 professional licenses.

For full program details see the program information sheet.

If you have what it takes you can fill out the application and submit it to ASD.

Niko blows up the Sweet 16 @ Seattle FD

July 11, 2010 by Russell · Leave a Comment

2010_fd_seattle_gross_niko-ng

Local FD pro Nikolay ‘Molotov Cocktail’ Konstantinov not only was the first ever Evergreen Drift driver to break into the top 32 at a Formula Drift pro event he also made it to the Sweet 16!

The weekend didn’t start to well as Niko failed tech for having a Skyline front crossmember installed to support it’s RB25DETT. After a scramble and a little fabrication the FD legal and correct for the chassis S13 crossmember was installed and the car passed tech.

After taking Conrad Grunewald to a OMT in the top 32 Nikolay was able to squeak out a win and move on to the Sweet 16. This was no small feat as Nikolay’s measly460 HP was quite a bit slower than Conrad’s monster V8 Camaro on the back stretch leading to the initiation point.  Nikolay went all out and was able to keep on Contrad’s door during his chase runs which was a big factor in the judge’s decision.

In the Rounds of 16 Nikolay faced current Rookie of the Year points leader Charles Ng in his proven RX7 with an LS6 V8. Both FD rookie drivers battled hard and a one more time was called after the first pair of runs. The second pair of runs were equally as close except that Nikolay tapped the wall and straightened at the tight final hairpin on his lead run giving Ng the pass to the next round.

With many rookie drivers taking up to two seasons to break into the ultra competitive rounds of 16 Nikolay accomplished a huge feat in his first ever attempt at Formula Drift competition! Keep your eye on this guy as his goal is nothing less than to “Go all the way”.

As the only local Northwest driver to make it into the tandem eliminations Niko got all the home town fans excited and elicited extra loud cheers from the capacity crowd. Back in the pits after the Top 16 Niko was being mobbed like a rock star with people vying to have their arms autographed with a Sharpie!

Let’s hope he can make it Round #5 in Vegas as that track will be well suited to his car setup and driving style.

ProAm #3 flash results!

An epic round of Evergreen Drift ProAm is in the books.

evd_proam_2010_logo

evd_2010_proam3_gross_kpollard

Final results are:

  1. Kyle Pollard
  2. Nik Jimenez
  3. Kohei Nakamura
  4. Peter Funatake

Kyle had only driven in one drift event in over 2 years prior this ProAm round and had never slid the 5/8ths bank. He was driving a borrowed car that just had ITBs installed and the ECU tuned a couple days before the event (this means he was risking mechanical issues with untested upgrades for those not up on the jargon). Even with 176HP at the wheels from a Honda S2000 engine swap the Corolla was still underpowered for the mega sized FD pro course but Kyle quickly figured out how to make it work and drifted to the top of the podium! Outstanding.

Stay tuned for more media, pictures, and full results.

  1. Peter Funatake
  2. Kohei Nakamura
  3. Kyle Pollard
  4. Nik Jimenez
  5. Andrew Coomes
  6. Mike Phillips

Practice and qualifying was eventful with wall taps and mechanical gremlins for many drivers but everyone has pushed forward and all cars are set to take the track tomorrow.

The tandem eliminations start at 1pm this Saturday the 10th so don’t miss the action as the drivers go door to door for the champagne.

Nikolay Konstantinov was the only Northwest pro to make the FD top 32. Roland’s transmission blew just before qualifying, Ian was just edged out of the 32, and Victor missed the cut as well. Congratulations to Nikolay for being the first ever Evergreen Drift driver to qualify in an FD top 32! Full FD results here.

Check out the Photo Finish Media gallery for early pictures from Thursday and qualifying today.
