Grassroots Round 1 Recap and Media
June 8, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment

June 6th dawned a gray and rainy Seattle day. The prospect of poor conditions did little to deter the die hard Northwest drifters and fans. Thirty drifters from BC, Oregon, and Washington showed up to compete in the first of three rounds in the Evergreen Drift Grassroots Championship and over 100 spectators came to cheer on the drivers.
With competition rules that allow all skill levels and modification levels compete head to head drivers ranged from beginner to ProAm. All had one goal; to give it their all and see how far they could go.
Drivers had four practice runs before going into qualifying. The track was wet from morning showers and dusty from a monster truck event the weekend before making traction very hard to find. Drivers were getting warmed up and several got real close looks at the wall stopping mere feet from disaster. Others had fun punting the clipping point traffic barrels in spectacular fashion!

Season Kickoff Open Drift Recap
April 19, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
The Evergreen Drift season has officially begun with our first Open Drift event in the bag.
The event used 3 different tracks for non stop drifting insanity all day long.
The old school 3/8ths course is now officially dubbed the ‘Competition Course’. Drivers who are not comfortable with drifting the whole bank get assigned to this course to level up their skills.
The experienced drivers that can clear the whole bank were let loose on the Hot Lap course that was successfully debuted during the Invitational event. The genius of the Hot Lapping format is that two groups of drivers can be on course at the same time doubling the number of runs we can do in a day. Whats not to like about more runs?
It also steps up the challenge with much faster speeds on the bank. A couple of drivers got caught out by these increased speeds with Primo kissing a tire slightly denting his Type X bumper and headlight and Russell’s spectacular shunt after misjudging his entry speed.
The only issue is the extra stress of 3 consecutive Hot Lap runs kills your tires faster and your car has to be solid. With all the extra runs we’re throwing at you make sure your car is dialed so you don’t miss out on any of your run groups due to car breakage. Time to step it up!
Both Andrew Coomes and Mike Phillips took runs on the ProAm 5/8ths course getting ready for the first ProAm round on 5/7. Note to all ProAm drivers: The 5/8ths will be open every Open Drift event for you to test and practice! Take advantage of it.
Thanks to all the volunteers, drivers, and the fans who showed up for a great day of drifting.
Here are the pretty pictures to prove what went down.

The Evergreen Drift crew is on scene in force
We have a cool banner -

And big stickers for the cars -

The ProAm drivers got their first shot at the famous Toyota Speedway course in today’s practice dress rehearsal for tomorrow’s big showdown.
The big news is that all drivers who qualify for the to 16 will receive their Formula Drift professional license. With 22 drivers some guys will not make it this year so the pressure is on to qualify well.
The Northwest drivers were holding it down in practice and growing comfortable with the track by the end of the session.
The only carnage was Roland Gallagher who spun coming into the inner bank and hit the wall on the drivers side. The car suffered some damaged rear control arms, some bent sheet metal, and damaged wheels. FD pro and all around drift gangster Justin Pawlak let Roland and his crew use his shop to get the car ready for qualifying tomorrow so the Teal Tiger will be ready for battle.
The Photo Finish Media crew is on hand and provided us with some teaser pics of the Evergreen Drift drivers from practice. Check back for a video and more photos after the event.

Nikolay Konstantinov - Just happy to be going fast and making smoke

A big thanks to the FD crew for running the practice. It was awesome to see Andy Luk and Jim Liaw out shagging cones. Mad respect.
Come on out to Toyota Speedway tomorrow and watch the show. Gates open at 10AM - Full details here.
Round 3 // Pictures and Recap

Round 3 had hands down the best tandem battles yet witnessed at an Evergreen Drift competition. Last season it wasn’t until the top 4 bracket did the tandem action start to get intense. This year, with the drivers and their cars advancing at a rapid pace the competition gets crazy at the great 8.
After a overcast and gray week Sunday brought clear sky and 70 degree temps. Perfect for a day at the track.

ProAm Top Secret Practice
August 6, 2009 by Julia · Leave a Comment
Tuesday night we had a private practice for the ProAm drivers.
All the 14 registered drivers were invited but only a few were able to make it.
Here is the intel on what occurred and who’s looking hot for the ProAm
Tommy Suell - Tommy, a full Formula Drift pro, rolled in early and was on hand to give tips to the ProAm drivers. This helped the guys find the FD approved line as chief ProAm judge Andy Yen is merciless and holds the ProAm guys to the same standards as FD.

Trent Stromkins - Canada was represented by Drift Safari’s ace SR20 Corolla pilot. Trent has been to 99.99% of the Evergreen Drift events and has a ton of 5/8ths seat time and is looking good for the ProAm.

Very few people know of the peanut man from California. The individuals that are aware of Mr. Chen know that he’s a single 25 year old that loves long walks on Santa Monica Peer, runs a peanut factory, and is world renown for his BAMF quality photography. Gleb Antonav and I had a chance to visit his dwelling back in 2007. Lets just say this guy is mad decent.

6.12 Open Drift in Pictures

In the past seasons all the events were on Friday’s and we drifted under the big Speedway lights. This year we’ve moved to Sundays to gain a lot more time to drift but the events end before sundown due to noise ordinances.
On the 12th we had the only Friday event on the schedule this year and were able to return to our roots with some night drifting.
The event was lightly attended due to the 6pm start time so everyone got tons of runs.
We invited all the drivers who are going to the Evergreen Drift ProAm to come and take extra runs on the full FD spec 5/8ths course and a few showed up for the practice.
Fresh Blood //
Nick Jimenez took his first ever runs on the 5/8ths. He had a couple of close calls including this one but managed to make it with no damage.

A Premier Drifting Championship based in the Pacific Northwest, Evergreen Drift is the only series that you'll see locals and pros tackle Evergreen Speedway's 5/8ths course.
